The number one rule to red is to choose your lipstick shade by your skin tone. The easiest way to identify your skin tone is by looking at the veins on your wrist.
If your veins are:
-blue or purple-ish, you have cool undertones, this tends to be fairer skin
-greenish, you have warm undertones, this tends to be medium or olive skin
-colorless or match the color of your skin, you have neutral undertones, this tends to be darker skin
Just like skin, lipstick also has undertones. Warm lipstick is usually orangey-red and a cool lipstick is usually
blue-red, like a deep rose shade. Choose a red lip that complements your skin by matching your lipstick tone with your skin tone. Fairer skin tones with cool undertones look striking in a blue-red lip. Olive/medium skin tones pair perfectly with an orangey-red lip. Finally, darker skin tones look good in almost any red shade. Their neutral undertones allow for this versatility! For a red lip that really pops and stands out, pick a lipstick shade with undertones that are opposite of your skin’s. For a pop with neutral skin tones, choose a brighter lip!
Finally, make sure to wear a long-wearing red lipstick that is smudge-proof while we wait for the mask mandate to be lifted everywhere. Pulling your mask up and down can turn into a disaster if your lip isn't locked in!
