Makeup + Hair: How to wear Pantone Yellow in 2021

PANTONE COLORS 2021 - YELLOW + GREY

A marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting. FROM THE OFFICIAL PANTONE WEBSITE.

Hello there Beautiful,

Curious about the Pantone Color of the Year and how best to incorporate into your style?

Individuals have differing opinions regarding the Pantone color each year and each year one person might express they love the color chosen while another might mutter a simple “eh” regard and yet another might ask, “what is a Pantone color?” So for those who question the latter, allow me to explain.

Pantone standardizes paint and swatch colors and is well known within the design world. Each year they choose the “Color of the Year” and artists around the world wait in delighted expectation. Since Brite Beauty lives within the beauty design space, we too look forward to this announcement and make plans to play in the announced color! This year we’re putting together a divine editorial shoot that we will release in late February.

The Ultimate Grey and Illuminating Yellow “best express the mood for Pantone Color of the Year 2021, practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic,” as stated on their website.

I personally think the colors are perfect and a perfect reminder of what we need. Instead of a society in conflict, let’s look towards love and light, appreciate our differences and move towards compromise and acceptance, yin and yang.

For beauty enthusiasts, you may be rejoicing at the opportunity to wear bright, or should we say BRITE yellow, possibly on your eyes, or for those super bold, on your lips (hey who will ever know what’s under that mask?) For those of you looking for a more natural option, you might be asking in what ways can you incorporate the warm yellow and contrasting subdued gray?

For starters, do not be afraid to wear color on your eyes! It’s okay...it’s more than okay! I asked our Creative Director, Kayla Combs, who wears lots of yellow (because she is the essence of sunshine herself) what she recommends and she had this to say: “Based off of my years in the industry for those who are adventurous, Chrome yellow from Mac is a great bold pop of yellow. If you want to start by dipping your toe in the water then go for a deeper yellow, possibly a marigold or a golden yellow.” We also found Daffodil by KVD Beauty and thought it was gorgeous. I personally tried a combination of Maybelline Golden Girl and Loreal Brilliant Eyes Liquid Shadow in Crown Gold

What about your hair? You can really have some fun by throwing in a yellow scrunchie like this one from Free People, or this adorable hair bow from Neimans. Brides, you too can get on the fun! A palette of blush pink, yellow, and grey would be delightful and oh so happy. Consider wearing this oh so bridal bow in your hair for your bridal shower - courtesy of LuLus.
